A Word about the Election

Any thinking person who understands and cherishes the nature of the God we serve has struggled with the defiling spirit of this election cycle. Never in my lifetime have the choices been so unappealing. Faced with two deeply objectionable nominees, I would counsel everyone to stop focusing on the flaws of the candidates as people and examine the party platforms. Pray. Discern. Listen to the Spirit of God. Then study and vote for the party platform – as opposed to the person – that most represents your values. If you feel that you must vote for a third party candidate in order to salve your conscience, then do so, but consider that the next president will appoint 1 to 3 Supreme Court justices who, unlike the temporary occupants of the White House, will serve for life and affect the future of our nation for a generation.

I will tell no one how to vote, nor am I allowed to prophesy the outcome. I merely encourage all of us to examine the issues, pray, listen to God, think and vote. Regardless of the outcome, our King is Jesus and we are citizens first and foremost of the kingdom of God. He is our hope, not America, not a president and not a government. read more

On the Brink of Breakthrough

One of the good things about having lived six and a half decades has been the opportunity to watch several moves of God’s Spirit come and go, as well as to visit many churches internationally. I’ve seen so many of them walking wonderfully in the Spirit, only to return to old ways, or crash and burn, in either case tragically missing what God really wanted to do over time. What happened?

I want to suggest that much of the body of Christ needs to break free of what I call the “mood cycle”. Too often we come to the brink of breakthrough into a real outpouring, sensing the imminence of something wonderful that could change a church, a generation or a nation, only to have the enemy of our soul begin to whisper in our hearts and ears in order to sow heaviness. We then become captivated by moods, fall to discouragement that it didn’t happen on our timeline, and fail to press through in prayer. Breakthrough gets pushed back to another time and the cycle begins again. Wake up, body of Christ! Stop listening to any voice but that of the Master and choose a heart of perseverance. read more

The Coming Move of God

In the 1960’s and early 1970’s the nation was in crisis with the war in Vietnam, protests in the streets, civil rights marches, riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, the birth of the drug culture, the sexual revolution and more.

In the midst of it, God gave us the Charismatic Renewal and the Jesus Movement, both of which I think we kind of screwed up before it was all over. Now we find ourselves in crisis again as a nation and we see flare-ups of revival here and there. As yet, however, it appears to be nothing like a unified surge across a broad base such as I remember from four and five decades ago. I pray that such a unified surge is coming. read more

Prayer Alert!

Pray for your pastors and Christian leaders in the coming days. A form of demonic pressure is being brought to bear on many of them – though not all – that feels like coordinated witchcraft across a broad front at a level of intensity I have not seen in 40 years of ministry. I am not one who often speaks of such things. I don’t like that focus, so please take me seriously. This attack strikes at the point of weakest vulnerability in order to drive people off balance emotionally, distort perceptions and destroy key relationships at a time of fresh release of the Spirit in ministries. It will be vitally important for leadership to cling tightly to Jesus during this season in order to remain balanced and avoid making fatal mistakes.

If this is affecting you in your situation, avoid making assumptions about people or situations. The enemy would destroy relationships if he can. Ask questions of the people who matter to you and listen to the answers, honoring what you hear. Listen to God’s voice. Focus on Jesus. Dig deep in the Word. Govern your emotions. Pressures to divide are never God. See the prayer of Jesus in John 17 and know that where the Spirit of the Lord goes, unity follows and people are drawn together. Practice James 5:16 to guard and protect your heart and spirit, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.” read more

What is the Plan Now?

Every time I turn on the news, I see things I wrote in Visions of the Coming Days now unfolding. As for what is yet to come in the presidential election and beyond, I believe God has given me a sense of it, but although many prophetic people with much larger audiences than my own are making bold predictions, I am limited in what I am allowed to speak prophetically. Up to this point, much of what has been prophesied by leading voices has been contradictory, leaving believers confused – or taking sides.

The clearest word I am currently receiving from the Lord concerning the election and its outcome is, “Watch and pray.” I believe that in this season we must calm down, seek the Lord, observe what is happening around us and dedicate ourselves to prayer. I will state with certainty, however, that very difficult times have become inevitable. We will see growing turmoil worldwide, both economically and politically. Great Britain’s exit from the European Union is only the beginning. Expect ever increasing bloodshed, as well. While I will not openly predict the outcome of the election, the choice America will make in November will either buy us additional time or hasten the inevitable. Watch and pray! read more

Trump and Clinton The Coming Election

What’s happening to our country?

With Cruz out of the race for president, our choice is now Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, and I find myself more concerned for the future of our nation than I have ever been. I continue to believe that prophetic people are off base in prophesying the victor. Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the Lord God does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.” What part of “secret” do we sometimes fail to understand? Doesn’t it seem clear that God does not permit us to speak openly everything we know from the Lord? God has reasons for keeping some counsel secret. In the case of this election, we as believers must not throw our brains on the table and stop thinking, discerning and praying simply because some prophetic voice – no matter who it is – declares one of the candidates to be God’s choice. Leaders of nations are just as often the people’s choice as they are God’s. To prove that point, the history of the world is replete with evil men and the disasters they brought about. read more

Three Prophetic Mandates for the Church

Last November I had three prophetic dreams in sequence over a period of five days that define the heart of the Father and pose three vital mandates for the church in this strategically crucial time.

In the first dream, John Paul Jackson (leading prophetic voice, deceased February 2014) came to me to pour out his grief over what he saw going on in the prophetic movement. Deeply broken over it, he knew that he could no longer change it himself. I knew that he had passed away and so it felt as though his spirit had come to me bearing the grief one would feel when you can’t go back to address the mistakes made in life. It seemed that some measure of responsibility was being passed to me in the encounter. read more
